Colt new service, san antonio pd pistol

Hello everyone,
I just recently bought a Colt New Service mfg 1938.

I shot it today and noticed that I was receiving some off center primer strikes. I was told that the timing could be off. Also the grips were slightly loose from what I believe is the wrong screw holding the grips.

Does anyone know where to find the grip screw and also is the diagnosis of the timing issue correct?

Thank you

With the trigger held back in the fired position does the cylinder feel tight or does it have a rotational wobble?
Any evidence of spraying out of the side of the Barrel/cylinder gap?
Pictures of the fired cases still in the cylinder of course would help.

I did not see any evidence of lead being shaved off. The cylinder has the same, almost none, wobble as my modern revolvers.

If you don't get it figured out I would recommend contacting Master Gunsmith Frank Glenn @ Accuracy Unlimited in Phoenix, AZ (Phone 602-978-9089) as he does work on these old Colts.

This is my S.A.P.D. revolver:

S/N 340304 San Antonio Police Department .38 with 4" barrel. Bottom of butt marked S.A.P.D. No. 1 that belonged to Sergeant Edward Pytel

Yeah...that's a pretty good sign you are getting some off-center hits!

It's a nice looking gun and deserves to work correctly. The Frank Glenn suggestion would be my choice.😁

On a side note: I think those San Antonio guns would feel much better if they were at home. Please feel free to send them to me if they get homesick.
