Recently purchased a cold officers model Target 38 special, serial number leads me to believe that it was made in 1914. I'm looking for any information for disassembly or care instructions. And is it common for old colts to be able to Cock hammer while the cylinder is removed?
Thank you.

I believe it may be newer than 1914. Maybe from the 1930's. If you can give us the serial number someone here may be able to pin down the date. You can XX the last 2 digits if you wish. The stocks certainly are much later than 1914.

Per the "Blue Book Pocket Guide for Colt Dates of Manufacture", your Officers Model was made in 1914. The confusing thing is the barrel marked "Officers Model Target". The OMT was made from 1927 to 1949. Possibly re-barreled at some point???
