Kind of you to say, Colt-SL. I know alot of fellas like their Colts un-modified...and for the most part so do I. But the two .45's are work guns and have been for an awfully long time. They were made absolutely reliable and accurate and I have trusted my life to them on a number of occasions.

Hey Elliotf I have the twin brother to yours so I won't have to ask you to post pictures for me! I like the deep dark blue with the dark diamond stocks but got to admit that a nickel with Mother of Pearl grips is one of the prettiest combinations on any gun revolver or pistol.

There are some beautiful guns listed here. I bought my 1991 Officers a few years ago to be my summertime carry gun (using a Government model for winter). I picked it up from a seller on GunBroker and I'll admit, I made an impulse buy and got bit by it. What I didn't see in the pictures was someone did a home made flare job on the ejection port, the sights were custom and horribly sharp and edgie, the internals were swapped with MIM parts, and the magazine was a horribly fitting aftermaket magazine that doesn't drop free. Sooooooo, some parts and a trip to a local gunsmith later, it's getting better. There's still more to do....

It's a working man's gun so I'm not too concerned with making her pretty. It's getting better and this thread is inspirational.

Sorry for replying to an old post but I just picked up a Colt Officers 45ACP in Bright Stainless which is very similar to the one in the photo. My serial number is SF15XXXE which put it in the mid to late 80's from what I can tell. Does the E designate a custom shop gun or does it mean enhanced? Does anyone know the history of these pistols?

I am interested in acquiring one so have been doing a little research myself. I have the new alloy Defender 9 mm coming but I would like a Bright SS Officer's Model in .45ACP, too.

Shawn, usually the E designates the model as enhanced. The one in the photo in post #1, with similar but earlier serial number than yours dates, according to Colt's, to being made in 1996.

You can call them and with your serial number they will tell you the date of manufacture: 1- 800-962-COLT (2658) * Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm EST
