I would like to know if these two revolvers share the same grip frame. Thanks for any help.

The answer is no. The New Pocket was introduced in 1893 and lacked the positive lock that Colt became famous for.

New Pocket

The Pocket Positive was in troduced in 1905 and did have the positive lock.

Pocket Positive

There was a transition period with the New Pocket to the Pocket Positive where it had the positive lock but the right side of the barrel was marked Pocket Positive. This happened above the S/N 30,000 range.

Transition model:

Note the Pocket Positive marked on the right side of the barrel:

The New Pockets were serialized on the butt as opposed to the crane area:

Guess that makes mine a transition? Figured it might be using up parts or possibly re-barreled. Serial 32816.
It has the left-barrel script that appears on later Pocket Positives.
Putting an advertisement for S&W cartridges on their barrel must have galled Colt to no end. Does anyone know the history of the switch to that left-barrel script instead of COLT D.A. .32?
