If I am not mistaken,the newer,post war styles are scored on the top,instead of the older pre war fine checkering,so would reduce its value to a serious collector. Bud

Late production hammers will fit the older models, BUT you also have to replace the old style safety with the new style safety also.

Colt's number for the new style safety is #56614.

All the other hammer parts: Strut, spring, stirrup, and pins are the same.

When replacing hammers, be SURE to pay attention to firing pin protrusion.

Also, when buying used parts, be SURE about which version you've got so you can match the correct version safety with it.

In other words, don't just assume that the used hammer you get is a new style.

Gun Parts likely has a supply of both older and newer hammers.
