Colt Python 4" Nickel 1967

Why worried? Nickel is very durable, have all my high end competition shotgun receivers done in nickel .. or is colt nickel have its flaws?

You did very well with that buy.Congrats and enjoy.BTW the Nickle is very durable so you really don't need to worry about normal holster wear and range use. Just be careful using polishes that are abrasive.If you do use them apply with finger pressure only.Can't wait for a range report.....Mike

Do not sell that beautiful nickel Python and then buy a stainless. You will find Dozens of nice stainless pythons before you ever find a nickel gun like that from the 60s. Those just do not come up very often.

I thank you! My fear I think comes from seeing so many in poor condition that it gave me the impression the finish wasn't durable. I have some Ren wax on the way, Micro fiber cloths and 2 fore fingers for finish care. As I understand it, break free is ok, no ammonium. This forum saved me from purchasing a python that was made prior to the introduction of the Electroless nickel finish, that had a touted E-Nickel finish, and paid less for this one so I owe this forum for that near blunder. Lots of great information!!

Beautiful Python that appears to be correct in all respects. Do not sell. Guns like that simply aren't readily available.

One question: Is this a hollow lug gun? (Is there a drilled cavity in the barrel underlug?)

The under lugis solid where the ejector rod terminates in the closed position, I suspect the is a rare option? I think I am going to hold on to it, It really looks brand new to me so 45 years ago it must have been spectacular. When pythons were new was the crane tight when closing the cylinder? there isn't a noise to here with a full cylinder closed and you rattle it, in a safe direction of course, seems very strange not to even hear the ammo making noise.

The hollow lugs were a feature of the early Pythons. In the past on this forum there was much discussion on when that feature was discontinued.

The likes of your gun will never been seen again. Do you know how to pre-index the cylinder when closing it to avoid a turn line? Hold back the cylinder latch and 'locate' the cylinder so that the bolt only contacts the cylinder notch leads as the cylinder is closed. Rotate the cylinder in a clockwise direction after closing.

A properly timed Colt will never exhibit a cylinder turn ring if it is always pre-indexed upon closing. No other American made DA can claim this.

yes you do! Hey heres a question, when I hold it next to my polished anaconda the nickel has a "yellowish or golden" hue, I think, I'm color blind. Is that just the way nickel looks? I never had a STS gun too compare it with until now.

So what would you say a good price for it would be, I think I did alright, curious what someone knowledgeable would think a good price was

I have an 8'' (nickle finish & trigger job) Box + papers (tag & string) extra medallion- Pachmayer & Hogue grips. Two speed loaders , Two Python .2.belt buckles...1 with the Cop car on it.
(Award Design Medals) is maker.
I was offered a price for everything. I Entertained the offer of 1500 dollars , before joining the forum. I'll never get rid of , or sell any part...of the package now.

you have a good quality python and they are tight. shoot the gun without fear, the nickel is tuff. the only thing is the face of the cylinder will have burnt carbon on it after firing. I have never found anything to remove it on a nickel revolver. but who cares if you bought it for shooting. I never had a problem with colt nickel revolvers and I always used Hoppes to clean them. the gun was made for shooting, not to be a safe queen.
