I am new to ColtForum, although I've looked it over before joining and found it to be excellent. I've had rifles & shotguns for more than thirty years, however, I promised myself that my first handgun had to be a Colt Python, the finest revolver ever produced and a true work of art. The Colt Python is just plain beautiful to look at - like a fine piece of jewelry. Needless to say, it's quality and performance is legendary. I ordered my Colt Python Elite in brushed SS with a 6 inch barrel. It took nine months to get from the Colt Custom Shop but it was well worth the wait. I was lucky to get it at all since Colt had discontinued manufacturing the Python and had just recently resumed limited production due to popular demand - this was in 2001. I have a question that maybe someone can help me with. The grips on my Python are made from beautifully grained walnut, however, they are a bit large for me. Can anyone recommend alternative grips that would be smaller but not detract from its original appearance (I would like to remain with a fine wood).

A good many Python owners buy Hogue Mono-Grips in fancy wood, or in rubber for the better grip.

Read the Hogue web site catalog, and you'll see that you can get the Mono-Grip in options like no finger grooves, checkering, and with fancy wood caps.

Also, Hogue has an auction site for super-fancy grips.

Another good grip is from Eagle Grips

The Heritage and the Classic are nice.
