Hello all, I'm new to Colt Revolvers but I'm slowly falling for them... I'm having a difficult time figuring out the differences between the Model names(Anaconda, King Cobra, Python, Diamondback, Viper) I've surmised that the names don't necessarily represent Caliber. Anyone know of a good website that breaks down the Model names/Calibers and the descriptions. I'd love to get a Colt Revolver in a 6" barrel, the Python calls to me but I'd also like some general info on Colt Revolvers in general.

Thank you,

Welcome to the forum. Here is a previous thread that identifies categorizes models by frame designation for starters: http://www.coltforum.com/forums/colt-revolvers/3142-revolver-frame-designations.html. Here is another thread with a list of model numbers with a brief description of each: http://www.coltforum.com/forums/colt-revolvers/46474-fyi-colt-model-numbers.html. The various photo threads can help with visual differences and identification. You are in the right place. Just spend some time.

Welcome to the forum!

THIS is the website you need! THIS is the ultimate Colt resource. A1A has provided you with a couple of good threads for basic information, but doing a name search of any model name will yield huge amounts of information. Start reading!

For all things Colt, get a copy of "The Book of Colt Firearms" by Wilson and Sutherland. Every Colt model up until 1971 is detailed in that four-pound book. It is the one Colt publication every Colt collector should have as a basic library reference. It has some errors and nomenclature lapses, but there still is nothing better.
