Colt SAA Queston

Im new here and looking to gain some knowledge. I work in a gun shop and had a customer bring in a Single Action Army today to find out more about it. The story I got was he acquired it back in the 70s but has no history on it prior to that. I have never seen one in this condition in person outside of a museum. I am by no means an expert on the SAA, but I noticed a few rd flags. The gentleman says the firearm has not been restored since he has owned it. The assembly numbers that are visible without disassembling the gun are matching. The serial numbers under the grip match; however all the SAA revolvers I have ever held have had the serial number in additional places that seem to be missing on this gun.

I have looked for factory marks that would indicate the gun was factory restored but I have been unable to find any. The gentleman would like to get an idea of the value of the gun.

Welcome to the forum. There are many very knowledgeable folks here - I, however, am not one of them. They are going to ask for higher resolution pictures. It seems like a nice looking SAA from what I can tell but, I can't even read the colt letter. So, you have your first assignment.

Looks like the front strap is checkered? Never seen that from the factory and doesn't indicate that feature in the letter.

From the pictures you posted, this SAA seems to be a very late 1st gen gun. I can make out that the SN is in the 35xxxx range.
Those SAA's had the SN on the back-strap and trigger-guard under the grips along the right side. Many of these late SAA's are
still in very fine condition. Quite a few were even presented to people of some fame. It would be well worth the $100 investment
for the owner to get a letter on this SAA from the Colt Archives.
