A friend just purchased a Colt SAA. I think it is called a blackpowder frame pistol. 45 colt cal. 7.5 inch barrel. Most of the finish is gone but it is pretty good function wise. Serial # 199XX.

When was this made?
Ballpark value?
Thanks.

Hi Firemanron,

Your friend's SAA has the potential to be a very valuable model. Early serial number SAAs are highly sought after by knowledgeable collectors. He should have it evaluated by a qualified SAA collector before he tries to sell it. If it is an "All Original" with NO replaced parts civilian gun, in good working condition, it could be worth four to five times more than the $1500 estimate above. If there should happen to be "US" makings on the left side which could put it into the 2560 1875 series Cavalry contract models produced it could be worth 10 times that figure. Don't be in a hurry to sell it .... Try John Kopec's "Colt Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers" and Kopec's "A Study of Colt's Single Action Army Model Revolvers" as references... Submit a few photos and we have some members who can at least give you an idea of originalty... Bob Best
