Thanks for the pics. Currently I have 3 (1878 10 ga. and 2 1883 12 gauge). I shoot mine with low pressure smokeless loads.
Colt scatterguns
I realize that when most think of Colt Long guns they think of the AR, but I thought some would like to see some Colt shotguns.
The gun on the left is a model 1878, 10ga, plain grade with barrels cut to 22 1/2, made in 1882. A real 'street howizter'.
Middle is a 1878 also, 12ga, plain grade, made in 1880.
The one on the right is a mod. 1883, 12ga, made in 1890. Fancy grade (I think).
All barrels were imported from Europe and fit & finished at Colt. At the time these dbls were considered among the best made anywhere.

I have a 1878 Double barrel that had the stock cut down to pistol grip and the barrels cut to 12" long. I didn't commit unbelievable act to this gun, but I did save it from the dump. everything seems to work but the barrel on the left side has a chip out of it. I would like to find replacement barrels for the gun. Are they available. It is a real shame as the barrel set has a matching number to the rest of the gun. 215XX as best as I can tell built in 1878.
