For once silver just might be better than gold. I'm exceptionally pleased how this pair turned out. Jim @ Nutmeg went out of his way to make every thing perfect. From hand fitted back strap and hammer profiles to the 1st gen checkering on the hammers. Well worth the amazingly short (by engraver's/custom pistol smith standards) 4 month wait. Even the ivory matches for the pair. Harpers' engraving?...exceptional as always. No small feat building this pair of guns 18 months apart.

I cant get over the great collections of Colts here, esp. the ones from Chaffee and Abwehr's collections, "outstanding" most can only dream, like myself.

I'd like to present the new version of this old gun. To be known as the "Hoppy" gun from now on. Named in honor of Hopalong who was kind enough to find and share the location of this beautiful set of real mother of pearl slabs with me. Took me forever to get brave enough and risk actually fitting them. The process went much easier than expected but....risking a set of nice mother of pearl with a pearl rookie.... was really stressful! :bang_wall:

Ivory & nickel SAA from 1874, my oldest. Apparently had an active life, seeing the beat up ivorys & a lot of wear on the nickel. OTOH the bore was well maintained, still bright & sharp ----

Sorry -- I just discovered this as a deja vu. Forgot I had posted it before ----

My SAA hybrid story --- Got it for $530, the remains of an Artillery, 1880s US marked frame & 1950s Colt barrel, cylinder & innards installed. Came with old Ainsworth cylinder & RAC barrel cut to 4 3/4".

I made believable grip for it & cleaned it up to look like an Artillery, sold the Ainsworth cylinder for $300 & used the RAC barrel in another project. Now I had only $230 in the gun.

Owner of LGS offered me a complete grip group from a 1902 SAA & $500 for my 1880s grip group with my DIY grips. That trade put the cost of my gun at zero & $270 in my pocket.

Latest config here it has a Pietta grip & ejector on it. Another $150 for the 1902 Colt SAA grips & $60 for the ejector gives me now a total of $480 & my hybrid SAA costing me nothing.

Originally the seller had sold it to me as a parts gun. I bought it with the hope of restoring it. First sale of the cylinder started the parting out, then the grip exchange --- I then decided take it as far as it will go. Now discussing with LGS some kind of trade. He knows the history & his son wants a shooter -----

This is a cut down Buntline and then was re-nickeled , I plan on installing some silver medallions and have already oiled the grips to a high shine, got it at a great price and will be a shooter.

It aint pretty but one can only wonder where this one has been hanging out. 45 x 4-3/4 blue with one piece walnut stocks from 1884. I kind of like the star in the grip.
