Heck just cut the strap, go to the ranch & shoot it out the window. That's one of the great things about a Colt you can shoot it out the window of your P/U & not even have it spray brass down the defroster vents on your dash!!!!!!!!
I've done that many times here when it's snowing & I JUST had to shoot!

Nice looking pair!! I think the 4 3/4" guns are my favorite. How does the Magtech ammo shoot? I bought a case of 250 for my .45, but haven't gotten into any of it yet.

I have a new Colt 45 SAA Long Branch; (only 300 made). I am not a collector, and I originally ordered a 1841 model that I waited over a year for, and it never came in. The Long Branch was available, so I bought it. Trouble is, I want a Colt I can shoot. I'd be willing to trade, (plus cash), if I could find a polished nickel 1841 4.75 barrel. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.
I think I'd just shoot the one you have & enjoy it.

I think Magtech is my favorite store bought 45 Colt ammunition to shoot out of my SAA's. The 250 grain LRN bullets are my usual, and this box in the picture was 200 grain LRN bullets. I really like the 200 grain loads from magtech, since they felt even lighter to shoot than the 250 gr bullets. Bottom line, you will like them.
I just got my new to me 4-3/4" 357 NRA Centennial SAA out of its 10 CA quarantine yesterday. I believe it's going to make an excellent shooter.

Best regards,

Ben Johnson's personal Colt SAA that I recently purchased from his long time friend and wrangler, Paul Smith; Ben used it in the movie The Train Robbers with the Duke (although it had wood stocks at that time). Paul told me that the grips broke and Ben found these in a box of parts he had. It is marked Fox Studios and was shipped to California Hardware in 1930 and is a 45 (of course). It came with paperwork supporting it's provenance! Born in Oklahoma, Ben Johnson was a ranch hand and rodeo performer when, in 1940, Howard Hughes hired him to take a load of horses to California. He decided to stick around (the pay was good), and for some years was a stunt man, horse wrangler, and double for such stars as John Wayne, Gary Cooper and James Stewart. His break came when John Ford noticed him and gave him a part in an upcoming film, and eventually a star part in Wagon Master (1950). He left Hollywood in 1953 to return to rodeo, where he won a world roping championship, but at the end of the year he had barely cleared expenses. The movies paid better, and were less risky, so he returned to the west coast and a career that saw him in over 300 movies.

I am WAY late with this, but going back through this thead Ben Johnson was one of my favorite actors & he did make several movies with John Wayne. If you watch the old movies note the way Ben rides, he was the real deal & rode very well.
Thanks for sharing.

Always perks me up.
My only Long Flute, 45 Colt originally shipped to "The Adjutant General of the State of Texas" in 1915, presently in Dave Lanara's hands for restoration:

Here is the end result of Dave Lanara's expertise:
