I posted this couple days ago & just found it the wrong thread --- so moved here where it oughta be.

My old survivor dating 1870s doesn't have a lot going for it but age. It does have a bright bore and proper function but the nickel, done back in the day, has quite a lot of iron showing thru in the wear areas plus the usual distress of use and abuse. Grips are two-piece held by a spacer block, quite a few little chips and nicks around the butt.

No history in that I got it about 1980 in trade at Baltimore gun show. With all its faults its one of my favorites, almost pairing up with another one not quite so old and in rust patina & wood grips.

THANK YOU! for the new thread on SAAs.:D
Well this is great! I just bought a Colt SAA through Guns International and now I find an SAA forum. I fear, however, that this may turn out to be an expensive passion...:D

Only have one Colt SAA, in the NF version, chambered 44-40, and she's as of yet, unfired.
Bought it new in the box from a 50+ year Colt Dealer; He was selling about 50 unsold in the boxes, SAA's and NF's which have been stored in the Gunshop's vault, commencing the late 70's.

Absolutely love this new SAA section, and I'll be acquiring another Colt SA revolver, when I can find one, or possibly, I'll order one from Colt's Custom Shop.

Good looking work John!
Does the super desirablity of the .38 Special in the 1st Generation SAAs carry over to the 3rd Generations? I got this one in and although it is not 1 of a few produced it still seems to have a certain appeal to it compared to its bigger bore brothers.

Not new to the Colt Forum but I think it's mug shot should be here, too. Highly illegal unregistered gun in NY, I bought it from a man who worked for me before I retired - bought it the day I drove out of NY for the last time on my way to Oklahoma. It needed a bit of my DIY TLC which is shown below. Cal .38-40, s/n 307Ks.

Some of my first gens.
32-20 1916 (needs trigger repair, 38-40 from 1910 and the second 32-20 dates to 1923.

The 44-40 dates to 1899 and has walnut grips, 41 is 1895 vintage and the 38-40 is 1907.

Haven't shown this one before. 1878 .45 that's had some work. When I got it, it had a Christy 7 1/2 barrel. I happened to have a early (style) script barrel for it & put it in. I don't think it's vintage-it was perfect-don't know when it was made? I put a correct hammer in it and have swapped cylinders back & forth, but in these pics it has a later cylinder in it. Still needs a correct base pin & cylinder. All markings are perfect for a re-blue. Stags are nice too.

Here is one of my favorites. Shipped to Simmons Hardware in Sept of 1884 this 108,xxx is completely honest and untouched with some blue and case left on it. It's extremely a rare occurrence to see a short barreled 45 with walnuts in the condition of this one. I went "all in" on this one the day I saw it. I've never done it before, but I decided that life is too short to let a higher price than what I wanted to pay keep me from buying this gun. I literally kept throwing money at the collector/dealer who had it under his table until he accepted my offer.

Money well spent, coltsixguns.

I have a few 3rd gens but so far a 2nd gen has eluded me. These are all 45's - only collect the early calibres.

Here's probably my worst example: 1879 .44-40, wore plum out, replaced (newer) barrel, fake U.S. stamp, lots of holster wear, etc....all markings are clear however, except for barrel address & "Frontier Six Shooter" which are half gone.
