I’m not sure which forum is most appropriate for this subject, but here it is!

A 41 Rimfire x 2-1/2” standard Thuer Derringer in 42,5xx serial number range. SN's match on Barrel and on Frame (under grips).

"P. TAPIA" Engraved down backstrap. This inscription was nicely executed during period of use. Barrel boldly stamped "Colt" on top with a clear "41 Cal" on left side of frame. The original plain ivory grips were broken and replaced with like kind.

This model was made 1875-1912 with SN's ranging 1-45,000 (Colt apparently has no records on these derringers). My estimated manufacture date 1900-10.

The 1900-10 Census found most “P. Tapia's” in Santa Fe, San Miguel, Valencia, & Union County, New Mexico; Also in Webb & Nueces County, Texas. And this is assuming that the purchaser was in the USA. Was it a man or woman seeking personal protection? We will probably never know.

Very nice little gun, I only have one, a Remington model 95 [0.41 cal.] wish I had started collecting these long ago, this one is not near nice as your Colt, but I got it at a good price.
I would love to get one with a nickel finish with Ivory grip's.

There were some Tapia family members in Dimmit & Zavala counties (the 2 counties directly north of Webb county) in the 1950 - 1960 time frame. Not much help, but maybe of interest.

I found a number of Tapia's in NM and Texas (and a few other states). Pedro's, Paulita's etc etc, all age groups, most as "laborers". Like with most inscribed antique guns, it is often like a needle in a haystack finding a credible match in census and city directory records. It was a bummer when I learned that Colt kept no shipping records on this model.
