Coltguard? Python

2013 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  iawolfeman
Just acquired a Python, ser number 194XXE. It is a dull nickle color. 6 inch barrel with a few minor imperfections in the finish. I'm not sure what I have. Any insight from this knowledgeable group would be greatly appreciated.

If it is Matt finish then it is a colt guard finish. Due to the serial number and year of mfg. It's not stainless so that is what you have. It is only a guess since there are no photos. The only other option is that it was customized after market.
Any photos?
My camera is at the office. I'll post as soon as I can.

194XXE appears to be a 1976 manufacture and ColtGuard didn't come around until 1981. If it is ColtGuard/E-Nickel, it would not be the original finish.

I can't seem to make this work.
Here's mine that I believe is Electroless Nickel (Coltguard?) and if I recall was made in 1980 or 81. It's serial # is V885XX. does this look like your finish?

It looks similar. Maybe a little more of a yellow tint. The cylinder latch, trigger and ejector rod are blued, as is the sights. The hammer is blued on the top and bottom, but silver on the sides. Screws are also blued.
Still can't get a pic to upload and tried to PM you to email pictures to you, but I don't have enough posts to do that either...

sent email to iawolfeman for pictures ... will post if I receive them. Interesting that several parts are blue which is not normal. And nickel does usually have a yellowish cast to it.

Wyatt - pretty gun and right timing for ColtGuard. And, a pretty silver color ... I was expecting a slightly more brown hue for ColtGuard.
Mark - your serial number didn't retrieve a model number. It only showed the gun to be a 1976 Python model.

Here are the pics of iawolfeman's python. Pretty gun. (I had to resize them to upload).

Thanks Terry!
I just had the stocks off this gun and it looks to be a uniform finish
On the left side under the grip is an O and below that a reversed D and the letters INS
On the right under the grip is an M
