According to Don Wilkerson's book, there were slightly more than 4,000 3" models produced from 1980 through 1985 cal .44-40. There were 3 versions, standard blue, Royal Blue, and Nickel. The Royal Blue and Nickel were supplied with dual cylinders (.44 Special) and walnut grips. (These are from the initial standard production).
There were also a number of .45 models made around 1985 with 3 and 4 " barrels, I believe these all had the so-called "Smokeless Frame". After 1984-85 the Custom Shop also supplied some with other grip materials at additional cost.
