Snub nose produced between 1984 - 1986 in 38 Spec. Has full shrouded barrel, all steel with Park finish. Basically a modern Detective Special with Park finish & different grips.

Question:
Does anyone know why the side plate does NOT have the horse on it?

The gun described above should not be confused with the older 4" Commando Model from the 1940's. (Which incidently also did not have the horse on the side plate.)

Money.

The Commando was supposed to be a "budget" gun.

Not roll-stamping the Colt Pony on the sideplate, saved money and allowed the gun to be sold cheaper.

Thanks, Dfarris. That makes good sense.

I'm going to buy one from my buddy to add to my snub collection. I haven't run accross too many of them so thought I better get one while I have the chance. I've been hounding him for almost a year now!
