I know very little about this model and haven't seen one before, but I've stumbled upon a Commando (not Commando Special) that's all-around tight, in time, 95% finish and just feels like a gun seldom shot. SN 155xx, $179 seems to be a reasonable price, is there something I'm missing?

Only if you let it get away. That's a very cheap price for a Commando in that condition. The Commando was a parkerized military version of the Official Police produced for WWII.

If the finish, sights and barrel has not been messed with buy it! It's a steal at that price. Paid $400 for mine nearly six years ago.

I'll say it's a steal. And if you wish to learn about this revolver, there is a good deal of information in Charles Pate's excellent book U.S. Handguns of World War II: The Secondary Pistols and Revolvers.
