Can anyone tell me what the numbers stamped on the trigger guard of Commercial 1911A1's are? Left side forward trigger guard web above the Colt VIS the numeral 1. Right side forward trigger guard web the numeral 60 ?????? Thanks Henri

The VP marking is the famous Colt Verified Proof marking. The numerical markings are those assigned to various assemblers/inspectors at the factory so that their work can be traced to them if there is a problem with the gun. HTH.

As members of the Colt forum, shouldn't we be using correct nomenclature? "M1911A1" is a military designation. No commercial Colts were ever so marked or labeled. Most likely the reference is to a Government Model.

I pick this nit out of frustration in searching for military pistols and have to look at hundreds of commercial models mislebeled as military models for every true military pistol.
