Computer "Timed Out" problem??

614 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  rhmc24
I logged in yesterday and spent quite some time composing a PM. When I hit the "Submit" button, the little window came up telling me that I had to log in before I could continue. So, I logged in again and then all I had was a blank page from which I couldn't back out or escape, so I just X'd out of the whole thing. I know you can "Time Out" on some websites if you don't keep busy. The Control Panel didn't say anything about it so, has that ever happened to anyone else? Also, the "Restore" button works, when I can find it--it just seems to pop up now and then.

It may just be me and my computer (we have a real love/hate relationship! :eek:/:mad:). If so, I'll try and find a local geek.

Thanks,

Dick

Dick, I hear you brother; computers are frustrating! You can't eat them and you can't shoot them. Well, you couold, but then you couldn't access the Colt Forum.

At the opening page you'll see a header entry named "Private Message". Why not click on that and PM administrator, Mitch (guy sajer) with the problem.
What kind of computer are you using ? It often helps to restart the computer when that happens if it is an unusual occurrence.I use a Mac and sometimes notice slow or sluggish performance and restarting fixes the problem, sometimes computers forget what their doing or what you want them to do.
If it hasn't been too long since you "lost" your message, you can go into advanced edit, click in the message box, and click "paste". Most of the time, you get it back. If you don't, most likely you've copied something else over the autosaved text.

Thanks to all--

It was Mitch that sent me here to the Lounge! :)

I'll make a paper copy of this thread and keep it handy. It's no doubt me and this Dell computer with Windows 7, (mostly, if not all, me). I finally got some pictures on a Photobucket account, but couldn't post or e-mail them. They sent me a list of things to try. I tried them all and probably shouldn't have because I ended up having to pay Microsoft $149 to get one of their guys to take over my computer and do things so now I can at least attach photos from my pictures library to my e-mails, but still not from that Photobucket account.

I'll try Microsoft again, but I'm pretty hard of hearing and their support people have such heavy accents that it's not something I'm looking forward to. Colt-SL put his finger on it--if it weren't for this and a few other gun forums, this perverse contraption I'm sitting next to would have been bullet-riddled a long time ago!

Thanks, again, to all,

Dick
Since Photobucket change there format, I can't cut and paste my photo's...Jim
If I fall into writing a long pm , I will highlight it all with the cursor and go to edit and copy befor I try to submit. That way if it bombs out somehow, I can open a new one and paste the message into the new one so I don't have to retype the whole thing

He had done that . As we have had no other complaints I suggested he post in the Lounge . The problem seemed more likely on his end imo . We have enough tech geeks here that one of you might shed some light ;)

To avoid various problems, I try to type my message on notepad & when finished & ready to send, copy and paste it into where I send it immediately. Being a poor & slow typist, I can proof read and tune up my message on the notepad, taking all the time I need.
