An LGS has this in stock selling for $4,000. I am thinking about adding it to my collection as a collectors item. Not looking at it as an investment going forward just as a niece piece to add. The Colt site price sheet looks right in line but just asking to the pro's here if the $4K is too much for what you get?

It really is only worth what you are willing to pay for it. Seems a wee bit high $. . . From 1880 to about 1980 the cost of a Colt SAA was almost exactly the same as one ounce of gold. Seems the Colts are outpacing gold right now. Personally I would not pay $4000 for it. The wallet is in your hand though. Good luck whatever you choose. It would be nice to own. 💥🔫

Looks good to me! My frugal (cheapskate) habits have often cost me more in satisfaction than the few extra dollars I saved. Over the years, I've missed several opportunities, much to my regret. Money can always be replaced over time, so as long as it doesn’t lead to debt, I now buy what I want.

Can you find one for less anywhere today?

Like I said, two of us posted about a new one, unfired, unturned, that was in a Tucson gun shop 2-3 weeks ago for $2275. I handled it. May still be there. Call them and if they still have it, buy it.

I repeat This is NOT a standard SAA that lists for $2399. This is a special order SAA with custom shop extras .Charcoal bluing being the most expensive bluing add on Colt offers.Color cased hammer as well .

The list price for just the charcoal blued Colt is $3650 . So by the time you add the hammer your approaching the $4K price.

If you want these finishes and you want it too letter through Colt .That's what you pay, simple as that.

I want to thank everyone on their input. I am guessing if there was one that was discounted it maybe because someone put down a very large deposit and backed out when the gun came leaving the LGS to sell it for what they had in it. In the early 2,000's I put down a large deposit for a Colt Python which never happened and ended up with a Ruger Target 77 in a 25-06 which I gave to one of my sons. Since our fiscal year ends in October this maybe my bonus? One thing about being 65 I don't get in a hurry anymore except when ordering Colt Python grips from Deer Hollow, I learned the hard way the last two times they showed in stock. My new set is coming on Saturday.

Discretionary spending for some is a hard concept to grasp due to the fact that they don’t have the funds to support it. There is nothing wrong with that.

If I wanted that SAA to add to my collection, had the money (I do), I’d buy it without hesitation. A new production SAA carries a MSRP of $2.3K….and good luck trying to find one priced at that. The question is whether you believe a $1.7K difference is worth it for a Custom Shop model. I believe it is worth it. Is it the deal of the century? No, of course not. But it’s certainly not out of line.

A new production Colt Custom Shop SAA that would letter as such - and I’d get one of those with it too- is worth that asking price. The limited .. VERY limited availability along with current custom shop prices makes it worth it. Like others said , how do you want to luxurize (that’s right- it’s a real word.. that I just made up) … how do you want to luxurize using your $4K budget.
If it was a total refinish to make it look real pretty like it is , probably pass because the refinish hurts the value. If I just wanted a real great looking finished gun to shoot , those Standard Manufacturing single actions are real real pretty and under $2K. If the guns was a standard production , blue plastic boxed SAA then $2300 tops.
But the gun in question, to me , is worth it because I believe that new custom shop gun, with the features it has , will find a home to the first cowboy that can spare $4k. The folks interested in this type of package aren’t too concerned about the money when they find out yep. It’s a real desirable item and hard to get.

You're not going to find many new charcoal blue Colt SAAs out there. If you like it and it's not keeping food off your table, or preventing you from paying the utility bill, buy it. You could wait and order one from the Custom Shop, but no two blued/case hardened guns look alike. If you like the looks of this one, grab it.

You may want to ask if the walnut grips are factory. It would be nice to know. Judging by the fit, I'll bet they came from Colt.

The price is a 2-edged sword; if one wants a recent Colt shooter, plenty to be had for $2k or so less. But, charcoal blue, letter from factory? Get it, cuz there’s none out there for less. Me, I’d love to order a .44 special, 4.75”, charcoal blue/ch, 2-line barrel address, dual caliber marking on barrel, circle around the pony, ch hammer, fire blued screws, & 2-piece fleur de lis checkered walnuts, no medallions. Geez, maybe $4500? But try to find a fine condition 1st with all of those features, even minus grips, & you’re looking at five figures today, awa a lengthy search.
