What's the deal with the cutaway barrel on this SAA? I have never seen such a thing.

It's not just the barrel that is cut away as there are several cut away areas. It says factory cutaway, but I would sure want a letter on that one.

Other openings, or some of them, would make it easier to Oil the parts inside though.

Many of these were show guns. Also for collectibility.

Gun looks like a legit Colt specimen to me.

Looks like something that COULD have been done by the custom shop as a tribute to the 19th century salesman's samples used to show the workings of the pistol. On the other hand it COULD be all wrong. Interesting piece nevertheless.
