Recently I've bought two Ruger single actions. The first was a .22 Single 10, and the latest, a .44 Special Flattop Blackhawk. I haven't had a chance to compare the .44 to any of my Colts but it feels like a boat anchor. My Dad left me an Old Model Blackhawk .45 and a Single Six and they both seem much better balanced. I haven't had a chance to wring them out at the range yet so it will be interesting to see if my opinion changes. The .22 is a real challenge to align the chambers to eject the empties. I suspect it will be difficult to embrace this new-fangled no half-cock mechanism.

I really like my 5.5" Ruger .44 Spec. I wanted a Colt New Frontier in the same caliber and length, but after many years of trying to get one, as in the Colt catalog but apparently never produced, I went with the Ruger. I never looked back. I haveno interest in the Colt anymore.

I appreciate the info folks. I haven't had a chance to put in a day at the range yet. Hopefully my initial impressions will be proven wrong.

I have a new vaquero birds head 45 ACP, I like it a lot, though I would rather have a Colt-

But- the RNV I have is fun as hell, sturdy and reasonable priced- Ruger QC ain't what it used to be. Mine had (has) some issues, but fires every time, and shoots straight.

And-I won't holler like hell if it gets wear marks on it, or if I scratch it.
