Thanks,John. Another question, if you don't mind. This dick special was used as a police training gun in an academy, and was pretty beat up. I parkerized it,and it came out OK as a shooter. It has plastic "Coltwood" grips and they are in excellent condition. Do they have any collector value, and if so where would I find a nice set of walnut grips to replace them if I sold them? Thanks, Bill

43Ejumper,

I can't answer your question about the Coltwood grips. If dfariswheel sees this post he should know.

I like Badger grips and have them for two guns. Here's a link:

Gunparts may have original grips and CDNN should have Siles:

Another good source is the Hogue Auction. I've bought grips for four guns from that site:

Another source is the "judge" who is a member of this forum and the S&W forum. He has a supply of handgun parts. I've bought three sets of grips from him and have been very satisfied. His prices are reasonable. Don't ask him for a set of Mustang grips for the DS.....I got his last set and ended a 20 year search. If you need his e-mail, let me know,

John

JCM298A, Say WHAT!? Mustang grips!? Rosewood with palm swells and finger grooves and the hammer shroud deal? W-a-a-l-l, blow me down, Sailorman! I've asked about those on these pages and only ever got reminiscences and regrets from other guys like me that HAD 'em and let 'em go! Congrats! I think those were great. Any chance of some pix?

43Ejumper;The Coltwood stocks are correct for the vintage of your D.S.,but since you parkerized it,any collector value, needing the original stocks, has gone. Depending on what their shape is,a collector of a D.S. or Police Positive Special of that era, would probably go $20-30 for the Coltwood stocks. Bud

rcwambold,

I'm a computer dummy. I don't know how to post photos but if you want I'll take a photo or two and e-mail them to you.

I had a set of Mustangs on a Cobra that I sold 20 or so years ago. I searched high and low for years for another set and stumbled onto the "judge" accidently. He had one pair and they look very good on the Magnum Carry, in my opinion. They help in controlling the recoil, too.

John

Thanks guys, for the help. This might help someone. Guns America #976517868 lists a set of NIB zebrawood Mustang grips for $45.00. Said they fit diamond back detective specials SN above 900001 and cobre agent police positive SN above 200001. I bought the set listed above them for a S&W j frame. I've bought from this guy before and he's OK.
