Folks,
I just found your forum in my search for some info on a Colt Detective Special I inherited. I'm interested in finding out what year it was made. I believe its a 2nd generation version as the ejector rod is unshrouded and the front sight is serrated.
The serial number is 9706XX. Below the serial number, on the frame and upside down, are the initals "EB" and a larger letter "Z". A "Z" is also stamped on the left side of frame below the side plate and just above where the rear of the triggerguard meets the frame.
Again, any info on the date of manufacture would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
DHall

You revolver dates to 1968. That indeed makes it a 2nd Issue. I recently got a nickel DS #939XXX dated to 1967. I don't know about you, but I am very proud of the one I got. She's a beauty!

DHall: Welcome to the Forum. You will find it to be a friendly and interesting place to hang out. Your DS is quite handsome. Nice pic. There are a lot of DS fans around these parts. BTW, the "Z" at the rear edge of the trigger guard on the left is the Colt assembler's initial or mark. I don't know who Z was back then, but I suppose that information is available somewhere. Anyway, thanks for the post and welcome aboard. Charlie Flick

Can't help with the date. Someone on the board dated my C283xx to '73. Got a new camera and will try a pic. (Maybe practice will get me as good those that post here)

Your DS dates to 1965. It is not a muzzleloader just cause the ejector rod is exposed. That's what gives it class.
Clean off the bottom silt and shoot it.
