Serial number RD981x, blue snub nose .38 special Detective Spc.

Can anyone here give me the year it was built?

Also, am I correct in assuming that this gun is not intended for +P ammo?

Thanks.

First off Thirties, welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry we can't help you as your serial number dates to after 1985 and there is no published data.

You could try calling Colt direct and they may give you date, depends on how busy they are.

Sorry!

Thanks. I had an idea the gun was new-ish. I'm developing some handloads for my friend, the gun's owner. He has since dug up the instruction manual which lists the gun as capable of +P.

In any case, I'll not be loading to that level as he wants target ammo. I was just trying to be as informed as possible.

Thanks also for the welcome. I don't now own any Colts. I used to have a Police Positive circa 1922, but have since traded it for a Ruger Single Six in .32 HRmag ¬ó a gun I love shooting and loading. I was always afraid of firing my old Colt PP.
