Any one have experience with a Det spec with a short ejector rod? I need to get a longer one fitted and I dont want to mess with it. Any recomendations for a shop thats experienced with the procedure??

This depends on the era of the gun.
Prior to the mid 1970's, the ejector rod assembly was more complicated and needs special tools to disassemble.
After the mid-70's the ejector rod just unscrews from the ejector and can be easily replaced.
Since you have a short ejector rod I'd assume you have an older model.

I'd contact Colt and talk to them to see if they can supply and fit a new rod. They don't have parts and won't work on some older models.

If not, you should talk to Jack First Gun Shop. Colt is starting to recommend First for parts and repair work:

YUp, pretty much had that figured, its a 1951 production gun that is the pain to work on. I 'll call Jack an see what they can do.
