A friend has this Detective Special 38 special for sale. The serial is 944295 and according to Proof House it should have a "D" prefix but does.
The grips have the 295 part of the serial number on each grip.

Anyone advise a value ?

Having the last digits of the serial number on the stocks is common during the time period as all were fitted to the individual gun. Sometimes the whole serial number was there so it must have depended on the individual assembler. The date of manufacture could be either 1964 or 1967...the information isn't clear.

As Colt75 said...the Detective Special is the finest snubby made by anyone, anywhere. The whole D-frame series is the best for their frame size.
