Curious, does your DB have a long round-butt grip frame, or the post-mid-'66 short square-butt grip frame?

 

It has the short, squared grip frame, the grips have the extra wood across the bottom of both panels to fully enclose the bottom of it, no metal grip frame is exposed.
Any thoughts on the white writing on the inside grip panels with the last 3 digits of the serial number on them?

 

The smith fitting the grips to your revolver at the factory wrote the serial number on the backs in grease pencil so they would be sure to be returned to that gun when removed at the factory during the production process. They are the original factory grips.

Would you consider this model collectable, since it was made in the first year of production?
I have had a few Python's through the years, and realized the older ones do hold quite a bit of collector appeal especially when the original boxes and paperwork are included.

First year of production, box and papers, certainly all add to collectability. Of course, condition is the primary factor.
