I love the fire blue but the case colored hammer is a bit out of place to me, on a nickeled gun. I do wish Colt would case color all the hammers of their blued guns.

I really like the fire blue screws, trigger, etched Colt Frontier Six Shooter, & long flutes. For myself, I'd prefer a Nickle hammer & ejector rod.
It is really nice knowing Colt will do about as you please!
It is different & unique. If it pleases you, that's what counts.

I have heard the .44-40 (200gr bullets) & the .44 Special using 240-255gr bullets don't hit at the same elevation?

I like the case hardened hammer on your gun. But if you're not happy with it, by all means have them make it right for you. I wonder why they went with the case color if you didn't specify it. That seems odd.

Nickle gun = Nickle hammer. It looks like a replacement to me. If you have any thought about someday trading/selling the gun I'd have Colt swap it out. If you plan to keep it forever, it obviously makes no difference. As someone mentioned in the recent long thread about the 7-1/2" sheriff's model, you don't want to have to give an explanation about the gun when your're trying to sell it.

very beautiful gun! It would be nice to have it with my BSS Python and BSS Gold Cup but I had to settle for a New Vaquero which I polished by hand to a BSS finish. I know I should never admit that on the Coltforum and wondered if the Ruger is stronger with its coil springs? It really would be nicer to own a COLT.

How long was the turnaround for your custom order?

The orders for both were placed in April of last year. My blue/cch SAA was delivered mid February of this year (10 1/2 months), the son's nickel SAA arrived yesterday (16 1/2 months); but as the son stated above the fit and finish of both were well worth the wait.
