I acquired this .38 Special through a trade. It has a 4" barrel, which I think is really cool. This is one of the guns ordered by Don Wilkerson from the Custom Shop.

That barrel length gives a very interesting look to the SAA. For absolutely no reason that makes sense, I like it more when chambered in .38 than .45.

The look of that case coloring is perfect (in my humble opinion). And the barrel length is super-cool.

I have an affinity for SAAs in .38 Special. Perhaps because they are somewhat rare.

I think the 38s and 44s balance better in hand than the 4" .45s.

Ya got a nice one there Hoppy!

I suspect the total production on that variant is very low (250??). Do you have that information?

Unfortunately, I don't. I picked up the gun Tuesday and I've been under the weather this week, so I haven't done any real research yet.
Looks like the ejector rod has just enough length to break free a fired case from the cylinder and that most the time is enough to then easily pull it out with a finger nail.

Good going finding that! I had one of the 4" specials in .38-40. I've tried several times to buy it back without luck. Seems the guy I sold it to is smarter than me.

Might be fun to start a photo thread of 4" Colt guns.

Would be if I had any photos of my .38-40. I do have some of a 3 1/2" Wilkerson .45 that I also sold.

Wow, Ben! Coming from you, that's like Sinatra praising another singer.

Well, you do have that engraved 38-40 I like so much. ;)
You mean this one of course. By the way, thanks for getting me started on this website. I'm enjoying it.
