Dry firing the newer revolver

It's strongly recommended to use snap caps on all the newer Colt revolvers from the Mark III series, Mark V, King Cobra, Anaconda, through the current New Cobra and New King Cobra.

All these models have the firing pin staked and pinned into the frame. Some firing pins might be too hard and can break if dry fired.
Replacement requires a special press device and support dies, plus a special staking tool that works down the barrel.
Since Colt no longer offers any service for these revolvers, you'd have to use one of the two Colt qualified pistolsmiths who are members here to do a replacement should the firing pin break.

For that reason you should use snap caps.
