Can anyone tell me what generation a 1966 Python is considered?

The python itself does not have generations. You are more aptly referring to whether it would have Gen 1, Gen 2, or Gen 3 stocks (grips).

My opinion. There are no dumb questions we all come here to learn. I have been doing this for 30yrs and still learn something all the time, there are the best guys here anywhere. some of them could probably build there own python from scratch, [hats off to all of us].............................................MBLHOPO

The term "generation" is usually limited by collectors to Colt Single Actions.
The term "issues" is used for other Colt firearms.

Since the Python was continuously produced and there was never an interruption, collectors have so far decided that the Python was one issue, even though there were some changes over the years.
