I just picked up a Python made in 1976, it is a beautiful looking thing, but the gun is nicket coated except for the hammer & ejector they are blued or black?
Is this normal or has it been modified? i am new to this site and could use a little help.

Electroless nickel as used by Colt was known as "Coltguard".
The version used on the Python was a more shiny satin finish known as "Royal Coltguard".

The electroless nickel finish was not offered by Colt in 1976, that was only offered later.
The hammer was also finished with whatever finish the rest of the gun was given, it was never left uncoated.

Bottom line, you almost certainly have a Python with a non-Colt after market refinish.

I came up with 1976, by running the serial through a Colt Serial # online check...for what that is worth. It makes sense what you are saying, would pix assist in confirming? It is a shiny satin
