Just wrapped up the Firearms Engravers Guild of America 2019 Colt 1911 auction gun. Each year a few of the guilds Master Engraver members are chosen to collaborate on a new firearm to be auctioned off at the following years awards banquet at our show in Vegas. Last year I was asked to design and engrave the scroll on this Colt 1911 MKIV. In addition, Brian Powley volunteered to inlay the gold borders and Barry Lee Hands added some of his signature gold leaves in the spaces I left blank for that purpose. Finally it was blued by John Powers of Powers Metal Work in Lafayette, La. I personally put over 200 hours into this gun with the scrolls and gold inlay. I'm not sure what the other fellows have in it but suffice to say it's a beautiful gun and should make for an exciting auction.
If you happen to be in Vegas for SHOT Show, be sure and stick around for the Beinfeld Antique Arms Show on Jan 25-27 at the Westgate Resort and Casino. You can see this gun in person at my table in the Firearms Engravers Guild section of the show. The Auction will take place Sat evening at our awards banquet. You can visit FEGA.com for more details if you are interested in attending.
Big thanks to all the fellows that helped to make this gun what it is and also thanks to Master Engraver Bob Strosin for organizing the whole shebang.
If you care to see more on the engraving of this gun I have a video series on my youtube channel, Master Engraver TV.

Thanks for sharing images of the gun. While I am not any kind of engraving expert, I can say it is a pretty gun and clearly demonstrates the passion that went into producing it.

And please don't be offended...eventually someone will ask "How's it shoot?" or want a range report on it.

Since it's to be sold at auction, I haven't fired it. But I can say with authority that after the trigger work I did it should run like a champ. I tell my clients I have one rule. If they commission a gun from me, they had better shoot the snot out of it.

Layne,

World class engraving. We talk about engraving here quit a bit. Sometimes it's hard to explain what is involved in good engraving like layout, symmetry, dimension, flow, scrollwork, relief, background and detail.
One picture is worth a thousand words!

Barry Lee Hands is equally talented.
