Alrighty then, got some feedback from Colt about my '61 Python I sent back last week for a re- Royal bluing and timing fix. $225 plus $30 shipping. They do recommend recutting of the rollmarks for an additional $100 which I'm going to have them do. The marks on the gun are pretty shallow and there's some question (in my mind) as to whether or not the gun may have been reblued at some point already. That plus the rough condition of the existing finish probably necessitates a recut for the best results. I didn't know Colt would recut rollmarks, so that's interesting. Sending off the check next week.

I have a 1906 Bisley 38 WCF, as it was called then. On Bisley's the barrel has Bisley Model on it. Because my Bisley has been reblued, the Bisley Model on the barrel is gone. The 38 WCF is barely readable. Do you think Colt can restamp those?

Just called Colt customer service. The gal said Colt does not do any work on 1st generation revolvers. What a bummer!! Guess I'll give the other guys a call. She recommended Peacemaker Specialists.

"We"(?) should POST here just what guns Colt will refinish and repair,as far as years. For example,I knew that pre war D.A.s were out,but thought they MIGHT still do 1st Gen. SAAs.

Would save some phone calls to Hartford.

BTW,S&W has roughly the same pre war cut off,and like Colt,there is the NOS parts supply to worry about.

Bud, thats why I've stopped shooting my 1st generations. If something breaks I'm Sh.. out of luck. Do you know of anyone who works on the old gals?

Gawd;a reputable gunsmith qualified on 2nd and 3rd Gen. SAAs,certainly can repair(not talking about refinsh/restore!) a First Generation.

Unlike many older revolvers,parts for the internals are NOT a problem for the 1st Gen. SAAs.

Called Bill Adair, and he said he would be able to do the lettering, he wasn't surprised that Colt wouldn't do it. He does have a great website and his prices are really reasonable. Thanks for the referral. He said he gets alot of response from ColtForum "enthusiasts."
