I need to check my pictures but I think I have pictures of one that letters factory engraved with an earlier serial number BUT the kicker may be that it was shipped after the ones that went to Kittredge.

coltsixgun, I have owned the one in the pictures for almost 20 years and was shocked when I saw the information in the
book by Wilkersons and Hoyt. I called Carol Wilkerson and told her about my gun. If your engraved SAA is earlier,
it would be good information to post. I have many earlier engraved SAA's, but they were shipped to places like
Hartley and Graham where they were engraved outside the factory. Of course the Wheel of Engraved SAA's that went to the
Exposition were much earlier, but they were not "made to sell" at that time.

I'll check it out when I get home tonight saintclair. The gun was very very sparsely engraved with just a few simple scrolls on the frame and barrel and straps. Seems to me like the factory letter indicated that it shipped out later than what the serial number would indicate so it very well could have been made for the 1876 expo and was returned to colt and they shipped it out to a dealer much later. I'll check my info tonight.

The serial number was 22.827 saintclair, and according to my notes it was shipped in 1884 but I didn't get a picture of the letter so I've got an email in to the owner to ask him what dealer it went to and how it was finished.

I have an SAA that is in the 21,000 range that I felt sure was factory engraved, but the letter came back that it was shipped
to Hartley & Graham without engraving. Of course, back in those days, just like today, a lot of factory engravers worked
on private projects.

As a collector of engraved and non-engraved SAA's, I look forward to hearing from as many people as possible on this forum who can add to the database.
I am new to the forum, so if this subject has been broached before, I hope someone can direct me to past discussions.
