It's perfectly fine to treat them as such, but I think hopalong's intent was simply to make you aware of the fact that any customization will significantly depreciate the gun. It's your gun; do with it as you want.I never aquire guns based on resale value!
Every gun I own has been customized in some way or form.
They're like Harleys to me in that respect.
Admittedly, this will be the first valuable gun I have ever owned but the theory still stands IMHO.
