A three-digit first-year (1956) 6" blue Python with minor holster wear just sold on GB for more than $10,000. If memory serves, a 6" Python weighs approximately 43 ounces, or around 2.7 pounds. If my math is correct, that's more than $230 per ounce, or about $3,700 per pound. Talk about your precious metal!
