What year did the die break in the "o" in Hartford appear in the one line address?; and did Colts only use one roll die so that it appears on all bbls, or were there multiple dies so that it appears on some bbls and not on others?

I have a 1921 vintage 32-20 with the original bbl that does not have the break, and a separate 1st gen 32-20 bbl only, with the die break, also the roll mark on the second bbl is distinctively heaver than on the 1921 SAA. I was just trying to estimate the age of the second bbl, if possible.

Best regards,

Found an item in Cochran that states, "broke 'O' in Hartford in barrel address about 1926 to about 1936." Don't know about number of dies used.

Someone should be along with better references or memory.
Still being new to the SAA revolver, I have a question......what is "broken" on the "O" in Hartford? Is the entire "O" missing from the die? My latest purchase is a 1912 SAA with a known replaced barrel and I looked at my barrel and the "O" in Hartford has a section of on the left side of the "O" missing! Is this the "broken" die?

If so, this would narrow the date of barrel manufacture for me and it would be a late 1st Gen barrel.

Yes, that's the "broken" die.

Monsai52,

Thanks for the information. Now I know for sure the "new" barrel is a late Gen 1 barrel. The only other question for the revolver now is when and whom perfromed the restoration??? I was told it was done by Turnbull, but you never know. The color case hardening is very similar to his. At least she is a beauty with a most beautiful set of stag grips plates. Here is a photo of the revolver. Once I have the time to take her apart for cleaning, I am going to post photos so maybe someone can determine who restored her. THANKS AGAIN for the help.

Same info other than there were a few cats and dogs shipped up until 1938.
