I have an identical pair on a 1982 J Frame,MK. III Official Police Heavy Bbl,a parts clean up gun. The angled corners appeared late in the Trooper,Lawman series,I am guessing about 1980ish. These are the full size,target types. The earlier MK. IIIs,in Lawman,Metropolitan and O.Police were also offered with smaller service stocks,not as large.

Those are the later style Colt Target grips for the Mark III series revolvers like the Trooper Mark III and Lawman.

Later in the production life, Colt changed the original Square butt grips to this rounded butt design to improve the grip.
