I am reasonably sure it's a D frame and they stopped making them in 1940 IRC.

D frame is correct and as Diamondback says, gun was discontinued in 1940(or NOT continued after World War 2. Built on the Police Positive D Frame,as the Police Positive Special(and for the Detective Special too) was on a slightly longer D frame & cylinder. .22 Banker Special Specials, bring more than those in the more common .38 New Police(.38 S&W). Some had square butts, most later ones were rounded. Watch the serial number range, and consult a book,as I've seen a few Police Positives, with a 2" Bankers Special barrel, from surplus Colt parts added-and this will "illegally" raise the price,if the seller tries to pass it off as a "factory Bankers".
