walked in the LGS today and found a S&W hanging up. it's a model 28-2 from the 1972-1974 time frame. serial # N935XX. this one will shoot 38spl's.

excuse the dirty paper towel, I just got done cleaning it. gun is clean now but has paper towel lint on it. I would say upper 90% range. $550 I thought that was a good price for it. i'm a sucker for N frames. this go's well with my Colt 357.

yes. someone filled in the lettering with gold paint. i'll just let it wear off.

Same here and agree entirely. I have a model 28 serial S327144 which I believe to be a bit earlier than the 'N' prefix?
Also have a model 25 in 45 Long Colt and a 624 in 44 Special. The earlier ones appear to be better quality.

Carb or brake cleaner spray will remove the gold and won't hurt the blue.

s327144= 1968-1969. according to S&W standard cat, 2nd edition.
