Ei8ht.... Its all your fault! The plan was to concentrate...but NOW I guess I'm gonna put my toes in the 03' Hammerless water for '17! So much for concentrating!

You can now concentrate on the model M's.
It won't take long to gather a few together, they're small.

An early 1915 and my grandfathers from 1908.

I'm not sure yet, which "type" or "generation" has the mirror finish. ...
Generally speaking from the beginning until about s/n 190000 on the 32's
and 25000 on the 380's...when the finish was changed to a brushed finish.

Interesting checkering of the front grip and trigger guard on this M1903.
Your pictures are a bit dark and the detail is hard to see.

What is the story on this one?

What's the story on the barrel?
From a earlier thread:

1903 Hammerless Target Barrel Pistol's

From John Brunner's book on the Pocket Hammerless
he writes that at some point the factory experimented
with a six inch target barrel for the 1903 hammrless
and that little else is known.
One unfinished factory prototype exists.

The idea was not unique only to Colt
as at least one barrel maker "DU MOND"
advertised in an issue of the NRA magazine
to sell Hammerless Target barrels. (1930)

Ever seen one? Not too many people have.

Brunner goes on to say
that there are a few known examples,
6 in 32 and 3 in .380.

I'm sure there are more of these rare barrels
and or Target hammerless,
maybe you have one or know of one.
(pictures please)

I have never seen two the same,
they all appear to be unique and not mass produced.
Even though Du MOND apparently made a few,
I have seen only one Du MOND example.

I was lucky enough to find a 8 inch target barrel
1908 380 hammerless several years ago
and have since kept a eye out for them.
If you look, they are out there.

Sometimes they will find you...
if your collector friends know your looking
and help get the word out.
In the last few years several police marked hammerless
have found me, they are the other hammerless I like.

Another collector friend had found
a target barrel hammerless
and offered it to me. $$
Who me? yes yes yes.

It arrived shortly and as I have learned,
it is different than any others I have seen.
I took a few quick pictures of it
(indoors crappy light) so I could share it.

From 1920, here is a 6 inch Target barrel M1903. 362229

This one is different in many ways,
one of them is the slot cut in the top of the slide
for a tab from the target barrel to index in to keep it aligned.

Not exactly a Police Marked hammerless or a barrel bushing
type II 380 hammerless that I like...but neat anyway.
I like it.:p
