My friend sent me some history on his great-great grandfather's 1860 Colt I recently worked on and I thought I would share it. Sometimes we never get to know anything about these guns past when they were delivered, etc.

Enlisted on 9/7/1863 as a Captain. On 9/7/1865 he was commissioned into "F" c. U.S. CT 5th Inf. He was discharged for promotion on 1/27/1865. On 1/27/1865 he was commissioned into Field and Staff U.S. CT 107th Inf. He was mustered out on 11/22/1866.

Promotions:
Major 1/27/1865
Brig-Gen 3/13/1865 by Brevet

Born 1842, died 1888 due to complication from his time in the service.

Interesting history and firearm. Thank you for sharing that with us. It would be worth it for your friend to get a factory letter to go with it.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I've given him the address and website and made this suggestion but he is not a gun guy so it may never happen. Too bad because he has some nice history, photos, etc. on his relative along with his swords, his pistol and it would just further add to the interest.
