gov\'t 380 - slide locks on partial mag

I was firing my stainless Gov't 380 for the first time since getting it (used)and ran into the following problem.
The slide release would engage with rounds in the magazine. It occurs ramdomly, with varying numbers of cartridges still in the mag. Occurred with all four (Colt) magazines but did not occur every time. Ammo was PMC ball, Speer gold dot, and Federal Hydrashock, and it occurred with all three. Sometimes all shots went fine and other times it would happen. Seldom more than once in a magazine load and appeared to be worse as it heated up and got dirtier.
I suspected my thumb may have hit the slide release and tried to keep it from doing so, however this may still be the cause? Any other suggestions? I experienced no other failures to feed, fire or eject and had no problems with the slide stop/release coming out of the pistol.

Re: gov\'t 380 - slide locks on partial mag

I've had the same problem with my Mustang. I thought I was hitting it with my thumb but after extended shooting sessions figured out that it wasn't me. My gunsmith was familiar with this problem and has tweaked the slide stop a little. It's better now but not perfect yet so it's gonna get a little more tweaking.
