Green Dot
Hey guys, I have always used HS-6 in my 45 Colts. But as you all know, reloading supplies are tough to come by these days. Well, one thing I noticed in 3 LGS, they all had Green Dot while not having much of anything else. I did some research and decided to give it a try. Well, it turns out to be a pretty versatile pistol powder that most people seem to overlook. It burns clean and has mild recoil. I've used in 327 Federal Mag, 40 S&W, 44 Mag, and 45 Colt.
I just want to pass this on and hope this helps someone who is having a hard time finding powder.

Last shortage, I bought some Green Dot because it was the only powder available that could be used in pistol cartridges. I found it as accurate as Unique in most of my guns, and exceptionally accurate in my .41 mag with cast bullets.
Hercules Green Dot was versatile, but fairly smoky. That's why it was never pushed much as a pistol powder. The current Alliant Green Dot was reformulated to about the same ballistics but less smoky, but a lot of folks knew its previous reputation, and its sales suffered for that.

What sort of bulk does Green Dot ( or the present incarnation of it ) have?
For example, in Standard Pressure, Standard Loading .45 Colt, is it just a little dab in the bottom of the Cartridge? Or, does it come up half way? Or..?
Is it any good for .38 Special? ( I notice so far, the only 'low pressure' Cartridge mentioned, is .45 Colt ).

PB is a great powder unfortunately the manufacturer has announced it will cease production of it this year. So either stock up or start to make a switch.flanman

G D is a little more bulky than Unique, however it is a faster powder so less is used. Bottom line - the amount of powder I use of both GDot and Unique with the 250 gr RNFP fills the case to approximately the same level (1/3 of the way to base of bullet).
