I am helping a friend out trying to get info on a gun. It has been in a safety deposit box for 35 years. It looks to be a colt walker, fo not know if original or replica. Any way it has this what looks like a copper bar screwed on to the bottom of the butt that is ingraved SGT COOK. Everywhere else it says A Company No 48. Do any of you know where I can research to get more information??? Thank you so much!!! I can picture if any one is interested.

Chances it's genuine are usually considered slim to none...but anything is possible. It needs to be examined in detail by experts (and we have a few here) that can pick out a genuine article from a reproduction or counterfeit (of which there are many).

I personally have a Colt 2nd Gen. Walker and have read about them for many, many, years. But I am by far an expert on an original one. But will be very interesting when the experts chime in. 😎

While the ASM Hartford Models had parts and I think all screws are compatible with 1st and 2nd generation Colt SAAs, I bet their black powder repros had metric Screws. that might be a clue to check.

Now, if it had been in a safe deposit box for 80-100 years, that might be something. Far fewer fakes and replicas then.

Most definitely not an original 1847 Walker revolver, the markings are all wrong. The cylinder roll engraving looks a bit suspect as well. It’s a reproduction but I am not sure which manufacturer.

Second... The odds are pretty much stacked against that being an original Walker for all of the above reasons.
