Help identifying Trooper .357

I waited many years before I found a Colt that I could afford,it is a Trooper .357 and I probably paid too much for it.
It doesn't have a shroud and it appears to have a Teflon coating.The SN is 66312 which appears on the cylinder crane.I would like to find out more about it so that I can identify it for insurance purposes.

Congrats! It looks like your Trooper was produced in 1967. Not sure if there is anything else you are inquiring about since you only posted a photo of the serial number.

Thanks vin63.The only other thing I can tell you is that it doesn't have a shroud and it appears to have a Teflon like coating.I know it is not blueing.Has some irregularities in finish.

Not much more we can add without a better description of the features or photos.

The original Colt Trooper was introduced in 1953 and made until 1969.
From 1953 to 1961 it was made in .38 Special and 22LR using the Colt "E" frame with the firing pin mounted on the hammer.
In 1961 the Trooper was changed to the Colt "I" frame with the firing pin mounted inside the frame, and was available in .38 Special or .357 Magnum.
The "I" frame was the same frame as used on the Colt Python, and these are often called "poor mans Pythons".

It was available with 4" or 6" barrels, and any combination of Target hammer, Service hammer, Target grips, or Service grips.
Available finishes were bright blue or bright nickel.

The Trooper was an extremely high quality revolver, and is noted for it's accuracy. It was a favorite of sheriff's departments during that era.

In 1969, Colt discontinued the Trooper and most of the other old style Colt medium frame revolvers and replaced them with the Colt Mark III series.
